Cast Of 'Not Quite Historical' Figures

Introduced in Chapter 1

*here there be spoilers*

Shirotsumekusa Keito

Our Heroine. A wanderer. The exception to every rule. A complete spaz?

She's definetly a tom boy as far as women for the era go. She suffers from making poor decisions in social situations and is usually thought of as 'a very strange and silly girl who needs some discipline' from the men around her. Some of them also think she's crazy but since few of them can beat her with sword or bow, she has yet to be tied down by anyone. (Or, at least hadn't been before the story started.) She's smaller and lighter weight than a man so she's quicker, but not stronger. The only thing she isn't really good at is horseback riding, being a household guard. She's also not adept at hand to hand combat, and prefers weapons.

We don't know anything of her past yet. Her katana is called 'kusanoha', blade of grass, and it's guard is decorated with four seperated clover leafs inlaid with mother-of-pearl. Her wakizashi is called 'chibi-ha', little leaf. She is adept at using both, and uses a very unique melee sword technique no one seems to recognize.

When not hunting ninja or performing errands, she's stuck trimming the hedges of Hatsuyuki house.

"...the weak part of the armor... on the side... man what I wrote doesn't make sense..."

Kontetsu Hiiro

The yojimbo of the house! Who's in charge here?

Uses the "Fuchigatana Style" of swordplay. The blade draws no blood during an attack. He is the highly skilled yojimbo of Hatsuyuki house and Lord Hatsuyuki. He can't figure out why in the world the lord let some wiseass girl march on in and take up a post as a samurai, or why in the world she decided to do that. He has the added talent of being able to tell when anyone is lying.

He seems to spend a lot of time playing Go when not practicing or doing actual guarding.

Tsutamomiji Tomi

Working Class Samurai...

The always laid-back and good natured samurai of Hatsuyuki house. Excellent at both swordplay and archery, he seems to get stuck covering most of the late night guard shifts. He has a strange sense of humor and a surprisingly deep voice.

When not practicing or on patrol he's usually playing Go with Kontetsu or taking up Keito's archery challenges.

Mashiro Hide

Oldest, not necessarily the wisest...

The slightly high strung and commanding house samurai. He doesn't like Keito very much, or upstarts in general. He's lived in the town for a long time and served the last Shugo in the area. Slightly more bulkie then the other house samurai, he likes to throw his weight around and give orers even though he's not in charge.

He's a master of horseback combat and is often put in command of overseeing that Lord Hatsuyuki's war horses are well kept.

When not practicing or on patrol he's usually sleeping or pestering the cook.

Hatsuyuki Akisame

That's "Lord Hatsuyuki" to you.

A young shugo lord- land owner who was once a skilled high leveled warrior himself five years earlier. He once had the nickname of 'fubuki', or snow storm, because he was quiet, deliberate, and fearce in his attacks. A fair and just lord, he is beloved of his samurai but thinks only of inacting his revenge and doesn't take much joy from life. He is lame in the left arm from the attack, and is badly scared on his body from it. While he is still quite good with a one handed attack, he lacks stability and some power in a fight.

He's quite solitary and, when not working on estate business or practicing with the sword, he's usually practicing music.
